Frugal ways to celebrate the New Year - what are you doing?

Posted December 30, 2010

Will you be ringing in the new year with a bang to your budget? We are staying home this year with a bottle of $4.99 sparkling wine from Trader Joe's, sparkling apple cider for the kids, crab dip (on sale at Lowes Foods right now for $2.33 in the seafood dept), frozen pizzas (kid's choice), veggie tray, pound cake with strawberries (also on sale at Lowes Foods for $2.50), board games and Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest. Quiet, peaceful and frugal. Exactly what I need this year.

Click HERE for an article on 5 Frugal Ways to Celebrate New Year's Eve from U.S. News & World Report.

Click the link in the box above for some local ideas from Sarah at Go Ask Mom including lots of detailed information about Raleigh's First Night New Year's Eve celebration. This is also a perfect weekend for the free Eno River Foundation's New Year's Day hike. All the details can be found at the link in the box above.

What are you doing this year? Are you going frugal or fancy? Staying home or heading out?

Spending a quiet evening at home with our 2 year old. Too expensive to go out AND hire a sitter for her too! Plus there are too many crazies on the road on New Year's Eve!!

My hubby and I will be joining 2 other couples for a quiet evening. Pretty cheap: we're each bringing an app - I got mine BOGO plus a coupon on each. Its also BYOB and mine was a gift!

Our family will be burning a bon fire in our yard and roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. We don't have to drive anywhere, that food is super cheap and who doesn't love a fire!!!!

With 2 little ones under the age of 5 and myself 7 1/2 months pregnant, we will be sitting on the couch with some yummy snacks and friends!

Sounds like a plan to me! I always make these amazing ham sandwhiches with yummy mustard suace. It keeps us full all night! I have always thought New Year's is most fun staying at home and just enjoying being around family.
