Thursday thoughts: Extreme couponing on TLC

Well, the drama of reality TV has finally come to the world of couponing. TLC is airing a new show next week called Extreme Couponing. It profiles 4 extreme couponers who spend hours a day dumpster diving for coupons and looking for good deals. They have huge stockpiles and save thousands every year.

I can only imagine what it will make couponers look like! I hope they keep the crazy factor down to a minimum. I realize that in order to get viewers to watch the show, they have to find the most extreme, overboard couponers. I just hope they also profile some balanced couponers who also save thousands a year without spending hours a day couponing. Highly unlikely, but a girl can hope, can't she?

Here are the details about the show:

Station: TLC

Date: December 29

Time: 8:00 PM

Duration: 1 hour

I'll post another reminder on the 28th and I look forward to reading your comments about the show!

I considered myself an extreme couponer until I saw this show. With all the coupon limits of 3 per transaction, etc. how in the heck did these people manage to "buy" 200+ boxes of pasta??? Two of the stories featured were shopping at Kroger(not mentioned, but obvious). They had over 1000 coupons each! I get s^!& if I want to buy 4 boxes and have 4 coupons(the limit is 3 at my Kroger). Next time I'll try to use 20 and see what they say. If they give me anything, I'll just mention that show! LOL

REMINDER!! I've got my DVR set.

Since tomorrow will be a crazy rush of activity at our house and visiting with family, I just want to wish everyone a very Merry and wonderful Christmas! May you all be blessed with the feeling of contentment that comes with knowing you're loved and amongst family and friends.

Sometime in this last week of the year, we have to set new goals for saving - now THAT will be a good New Year's Resolution for us all and one I know we can keep :)

God Bless and keep you and yours safe during the holidays and healthy in the New Year coming!

Sunoe - good stories!

Nancy - I agree - hopefully they will also offer some reasonable tips.

Oh good grief. As if the people clearing the shelves and arguing with cashiers during Super Doubles aren't enough, now we'll be made out to be crazed loons (GREEDY crazed loons).

When my family shopped at the Subase in CT, the Navy stores had Double Monday. There was a sign in the Navy Exchange and in the smaller NEX off-base store that stated "any coupon" doubled on Monday. I had quite a lot of free product coupons in my file so I asked if those were included (expecting a big no!). Yes, those coupons could be doubled! One Monday I drove to the store not knowing my huge coupon file was still on top of my car. When I drove on the main road I saw things flying in the wind behind my car. Those things were my coupons. Do I stop? Heck, yeah. I had all those FPCs to think about. A man pulled over to help me, too. Another high fun coupon era was when the major grocery stores in DFW had coupon wars for years with few restrictions. I'd get free items for the family and add the rest to a yard sale or give to a women's shelter. For awhile I had an extreme coupon source. I asked a route newspaper driver for the extra inserts. I got 20 to 30 every Sunday.

Well, this should be interesting, and I agree Faye, they will look for the extremes.

But, for what it will be worth, it might help some people learn how to save money, without getting extreme :)

ok, so your hope is that they won't make us look too crazy. i'm going at it from a different perspective. I NEVER THOUGHT OF DUMPSTER-DIVING FOR Q'S BEFORE! i'm looking for some tips to start the new year off right! ;)
