Debt free holiday challenge

Published: 2010-12-03 13:25:25

Gifts, entertaining, decorations - the cost of the holidays can really add up. Here's my challenge to you. Make this a debt free holiday. If you charge anything, pay it off at the next payment cycle. Don't buy it if you can't pay for it in cash, with check or as soon as the credit card bill comes.

Everyone who accepts and accomplishes this challenge wins an awesome prize - no additional debt burden in January!

That's my challenge. Who's in?!

I am so impressed with everyone's commitment to have a debt free holiday! Thanks for joining in and posting your comments!

I'm in! I'm 99% done w. my Christmas shopping. I charged it on my Discover (for the points.) But, it will be paid off when I receive the statement! Yay!

Count me in! =)

I'm in :-)

I will definitely take that challenge. Last year I set up a Christmas account at my bank. I have money direct deposited from my paycheck each week. Then on November 1st the bank sends me a check for the balance in the account to use for Christmas. I am mostly done with my shopping and have paid cash for EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only buy it if I can pay cash. Other wise it will have to wait...

I'm in too!

Living debt free is a challenge I made to my husband earlier this year. So far, so good. Even with all the hurdles this year, we haven't paid credit card interest since April, and I'm not planning on paying any for Xmas either. :)

Definitely in! We made the decision a few years ago that we hate paying other people money to use money and now we pay cash for everything. I love only buying something when I know I can afford it - it is so much less stressful!

I'm in on that challenge Faye! I come from a large family and last year we made changes in our gift giving by only getting one gift and playing the white elephant game (but with a good gift). This really helped me to stay within budget and out of debt.
