Grocery Deals 11-17 - it's turkey time!

Posted November 17, 2010
Updated November 18, 2010

It's almost time for Thanksgiving and this is the week to stock up on all your essentials. Turkeys are a very good price now at .39/lb at 2 stores and all the sides and condiments are on sale as well.

At some point today or tomorrow, I will post a turkey comparison so you can compare the different turkey prices and minimum required purchases to get that price, if any. It looks like .39/lb is going to be the lowest price we see this year. Both Food Lion and Kroger have them for that price this week with additional purchase requirements (which are detailed below). If you find them at a better or comparable price anywhere else, please post the details here!

Many of these sales last through November 25 and we may or may not see another ad from them on Friday.

Sorry, everyone, I looked back at my receipt and I guess I was wrong about the Chex mix. Honestly, I thought I saw a sign that said BOGO but I must have been wrong because it wasn't on the receipt.

  • lucymiller Nov 19, 2010

I was at Food Lion last night and they did have Chex cereal BOGO because I bought one. Must have been unadvertised!

  • tnpirate98 Nov 18, 2010

Bailey's coffee creamer is 1.99 at HT and 1.79 at Kroger, both have $1 off coupons at the dairy case at Fayetteville & 54. great time to stock up when you can get them for .79-.99 cents each!
also the HT at 54 & Fayetteville has 36ct ice pops that they are giving away for free until they run out. I was able to get 10 packs for my nephews and the school I work at! cannot ever beat free...they had two carts tonight so I am thinking will go quickly!

  • mooseandT Nov 18, 2010

Thanks for the tips on storing the potatoes. I was putting them in my pantry which dark, but certainly not cold. I will put them in the garage from now on!

  • Faye Prosser - Smart Shopper Nov 18, 2010

"WOW Faye: "Gold Medal flour 5 lb bag $1350" Must be real GOLD"

Hmmm..I'm thinking typo. Earlier I published the wholly guacamole coupon for $150/1. You could get a lot of guac for $150! Luckily I caught that one before the typo police got me! lol Thanks for the heads up. Going to fix it now. :-)

WOW Faye: "Gold Medal flour 5 lb bag $1350" Must be real GOLD

  • wildfrenchrose Nov 18, 2010

MooseandT--please send me a private email and I'll shoot you my address--if they allow 2 coupons per person, I'd love to have two! My email is wildfrenchrose@gmail.com

    Thanks!

  • Nancy Nov 18, 2010

mooseantT - to keep root veggies for a long period of time, you have to keep them in a cool place. "Back in the day" it was called a root cellar, a dark, cool place, usually a basement area. Since many of our homes do not have basements, you could store them in the garage as long as temps don't hit freezing.

Cool and dark is key, freezing is bad - hope that helps?

  • Nancy Nov 18, 2010

This is the second time this has happened to me, but my email from Lowes showed a product at a different price than what shows up on the online order listings AND the item does not show up in their ad.

This time it's Dr. Pepper 2ltr for $1, yet online it shows $4/$5. Last time there was such a discrepancy, I brought in a print out of my email and had to use that to get the price - manager could not understand why it happened.

I'll have to do that again this time - very strange that my email shows it, along with other items that do show up on sale in their ad. Strange, but I know they'll honor it, but I have to bring in the email printout to get the price.

  • mooseandT Nov 18, 2010

I am planning to stock up on sweet potatoes at Lowes... any tips for storing them so they will keep for several months? Mine always start to sprout or is that okay?

wildfrenchrose - I have a ton of the Kroger prescription coupons that I won't be using and would be happy to send you one.
