Friday freebies and giveaway 11-5!

Posted November 5, 2010

It’s the first Friday of the month and time for a giveaway! How does a free dinner sound?

This week we are giving away a Groupon coupon good for $40 worth of food and drinks at Tokyo Japan located at 7439 Six Forks Road in Raleigh. We have eaten there a number of times and the food and service are always excellent! This Groupon is good through November 17, 2010 so you have a couple weeks to use it before it expires.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment below telling us whether you go to Black Friday sales, shop online or just sit it out altogether. I posted an article about Black Friday tips on the blog today. If you have any other favorite Black Friday websites you recommend, post them as well!

I’ll randomly draw the winning name on Tuesday, November 9 at 11 AM and post the winner shortly after that.

If you are not familiar with Groupon, it is a group buying site that offers big discounts (50% off or more) on meals, haircuts, massages and much more. They post at least one great deal every day and you can buy the ones you want and leave the ones that don’t interest you. It is free to join and once you buy a Groupon, you can print the coupon the next day to use anytime before it expires. As long as they sell the minimum number required (which they seem to always do), the deal is a go and you get the awesome discount. They offer tons of deals in the Triangle and they just started offering deals in Fayetteville as well. The Triangle Groupons for today (Friday, 11/5) include 50% off seafood at Blue Fin’s Bistro in Wake Forest and 51% off 18 holes of golf with cart at Keith Hills Golf Club. Groupons make great gifts and blog giveaways! To see today’s deals and sign up to receive future deals via e-mail, click HERE.

Black Friday shopping to me is like someone ripping my fingernails out – one at a time. To me it is just not worth it to go out and battle the masses even to save the money that can be saved on many of the deals that are out there. It’s just not something I would do or look forward to doing. Now my wife on the other hand is an early riser Black Friday shopper and usually comes back with some incredibly nice deals and savings. So I guess it’s true what they do say that opposites do attract. And that’s how we kind of divide up things during the holidays when it come to shopping and everything else. My wife does the shopping, I handle the decoration and the tree (a real tree by the way) and we both take part in the wrapping of presents. And for us that works really well and has worked that way for over fifteen years of a happy marriage.
So when it comes to Black Friday shopping, know your strengths and your limitations I would say.

I go shopping on Black Friday with my sisters! The shopping is fun and I love a good deal, but being with family is what it is all about. I am looking forward to it this year more than usual. I missed it last year because my son was in the hospital in Baltimore. We were there for 2 months and missed home so much.

Our family, including my sibling and their children will draw names at lunch on Thanksgiving day, we will exchange our wish list that everyone is ask to bring that day. We go out early in the morning and get our newspapers so that after lunch we go through them to figure our where we want to go. We make a list of the stores we want to shop at and what we will buy at each store. My daughter and I make it our day, my husband and sons meet us for lunch and my husband gets with my daughter to purchase my Christmas presents. Then my husband and boys go home and we continue shopping. Sometimes we start as early as midnight at the outlets in Smithfield and go as late as 9:00 at night. When the day is done, we have completely finished our Christmas shopping unless we have to order something online. On Saturday, we wrap our gifts and put up the Christmas tree. We have done this for years and love having it as our day.

I definitely go black Friday shopping. I always check out the paper the day before to determine the best deals and plan my shopping strategy accordingly.
