Need your input for meal plan day of the week

Posted October 20, 2010

One of our readers sent me an e-mail today asking if I would consider changing the meal plan to Wednesdays, instead of Mondays. His very sound reasoning is that most of the stores start their sales on Wednesdays and they end the sales on Tuesdays. When I publish the meal plan on Mondays, it only leaves one day to get the items I mention in the meal plan before the sale is over.

So, here is my question. What do you all think about moving the plan to Thursdays instead of Mondays. I can't do it on Wednesdays because I already have too much on my plate with the grocery deals list. What I can do is move it to Thursdays and then move the Thursday Thoughts to Mondays.

If you like the idea, I need your suggestions for a new name since it will no longer be Monday Meal Plan. Any ideas? And yes, I have already considered using Thursday Meal Plan. :-)

Thanks to Kenny for the suggestion and I look forward to reading your thoughts!

I agree - my girls could eat those garlic butter noodles with some parmesan every night if I served them.

You are right about the meals including many of the items from previous week's sales. I stock up when they are the best buys and use them for weeks to come. When I suggest on the Wednesday grocery deals list that something is a very good buy, you can bet I am stocking up and you will see it in meal plans in future weeks. I do try to point out who has an item on sale for the week, even if I bought it at an earlier sale.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions and input, everyone!

I'm with pss3, I just enjoy reading all of your posts. Doesn't matter which day you post them. What ever works for you. My meal plans never pan out, so I just buy whatever is on sale that week and put it in the freezer. If I am busy one day, I take something out the night before and throw it in the crock pot in the morning so I don't have to worry about dinner all day. I also stock up on rice and pasta so I can cook something quick with it. I use Faye's garlic butter noodles alot, they never get tired of it. Thanks Faye!!

Another thought, alot of things you use in your meal plan are from sales from prior weeks, not every thing is from the week that it is on sale.

Ultimately it has to work with your schedule, Faye, but I would do it on Sunday, when people are clipping coupons and thinking about the week ahead. That's when I do my weekly planning.

I just enjoy the meal plans so the day doesn't really matter to me. Thank you Faye for everything that you do for us. I really appreciate it. If you decide to move it to Thursday, how about Tasty Thoughts for Thursday. Just a thought!

Shaw89 - HT, Food Lion and Lowes Foods start sales on Wednesday. Kroger and the drug stores and big box stores start on Sunday.

Thanks again everyone! Still undecided..... May have to try it and see how it goes.

I thought most of the stores ran their sales Sunday to Saturday, with the exception of Harris Teeter which runs Wednesday to Tuesday. We shop on the weekend before the upcoming week starts.

I think you should stick with Monday meal plan because it works for you and your family. You do soooo much for us already. I personally plan my weekly menu on Sunday and look forward to seeing what you have planned for your family on Monday.

Faye -- I think Monday meals are fine. You can always use it for the next week as a planning mechanism. It doesn't have to be used within the same week.

I have no preference regarding days.. whatever works best for you. Name idea: Monday Musings.
