Giveaway Time!: Although I usually do a Friday Freebies giveaway on the first Friday of the month, this month the giveaway is this week! Thanks to WRAL, I have 10 tickets to the Junior League of Raleigh's Shopping Spree event held October 21 - 24!

The tickets are good for all 4 days and usually cost $10 each. BUT - because you are a WRAL Smart Shopper reader, you get a chance to score some tickets for FREE!

I am giving away 5 sets of 2 tickets so there will be 5 winners on this giveaway.  To enter, share a frugal holiday shopping tip at the bottom of this post.

I will randomly choose the 5 winners on Sunday, October 17 at 2:00 pm and I'll plan to post the winning names by 3:00 pm Sunday on the blog. I want to mail out the winning tickets on Monday afternoon so please check the blog by Monday morning to see if you won. Also, check your e-mail because I will e-mail the winners (check your spam box as well).

Here are some details on the event:

Dates: Thursday October 21 - Sunday, October 24

Location: Raleigh Convention Center

No charge for children under 5

There will be over 140 exhibitors from across the country selling jewelry, clothes, home decor, gifts and more. For the hours, daily schedule of events and exhibitor list, click HERE.

Congratulations to you all! Please send me an e-mail at saving@smartspendingresources.com with your name and mailing address so I can send your tickets out on Monday.

Thanks again everyone!

I shop throughout the year when I see stuff on sale and then buy the clothing and special items I need on Black Friday. I also save the free prints and other specials I get during the summer and fall for Christmas gifts.

I love to make treats for gifts - cookies, candied nuts and snack mixes in a decorate box or bags, and I'm done!

Frugal Christmas tip: Save the funnies throughout the year from your newspaper and then use this to wrap gifts (instead of the expensive gift wrap). This can save you tons of money and it's neat to see boxes wrapped with the funnies!

I learned how to make jewelry when I was in college. I go to craft stores like AC Moore and Michaels, buy inexpensive beads and charms and make (what I think!) are some great earrings and bracelets for my girlfriends and little girls in my life. The dollar stores around here usually carry these foldable metallic jewelry pouches and I put the items in there, buy a roll of tulle or ribbon and make a bow, and voila! Christmas presents, made from the heart for very little money in no time! :)

Wondering what to do with all those Clinique makeup bags you get during the year when purchasing makeup? I save them to drop small gifts in for the women and put a holiday ribbon around. Saves having to buy gift bags and saves time by not having to wrap.

I enjoy making homemade items for family, like knitted scarves or jewelry from shells I find at the beach. I also shop Black Friday sales online and in store.

I stock up on different flavor lip smackers at Harris Teeter (with coupon during Super Double makes them free) for kids stocking stuffers.

my frugal tip is: whenever I go thru Wendy's I respond to the email feedback form on the receipt and the reward is a FREE SINGLE. Parlay that 3.99 double into a triple treat !

I always look for holiday gifts for my nieces and nephews on the Target clearance aisles all throughout the year.
