BackPack Buddies food drive is Thursday - donate your extras!

Posted August 18, 2010

Join 101.5 WRAL-FM on Thursday, August 19 as they collect donations for the Back Pack Buddies program that helps so many area children in need!

From the WRAL article at the link in the box:

"Over 91,000 children in a seven-county region rely on free or reduced lunches during the school year. The BackPack Buddies Program is designed to meet the needs of these children when other resources are not available by providing backpacks filled with enough food for six healthy meals and two healthy snacks that children take home on the weekend. The empty backpacks are collected after the weekend and refilled for the next weekend’s use."

There are 2 donation locations this year:

In front of the Old Navy store in Crossroads shopping center in Cary from 6 AM - 6 PM

In front of Macy's in Crabtree Valley Mall on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh from 6 AM - 6 PM

This is a great way to donate some of those extra items in your pantry from Super Doubles and all the other fabulous promotions from the last few weeks!

Specific products they request include:

Pop-top canned foods (meats, tuna, fruits and veggies)

Individual sizes of crackers and cereal

Snacks like granola bars, oatmeal, breakfast bars

100% juice in cans, plastic bottles

If you prefer, you can donate money at the drop-off locations or online at wralfm.com. Click on the link in the box above for all the details.

My thoughts are with your brother, Nancy.

Thanks again for your donations. Such a worthy cause and so sad to think of little ones going hungry on the weekend.

Bill was out there this morning, turns out we live in the same subdivision :) He's a hoot! Timing was perfect, got to drop off some goodies and still make the Dr's appt in time. Thanks for your concern Faye, this is a 'years long' issue with his health - sad but we do the best we can :)

Thanks for the donations, Nancy! I hope your brother is ok.

Perfect timing on this one! I have to take my brother to a Dr. Appt and on the return trip, I can pass by Crossroads and donate this morning! Now, off I go to gather some items and put them in the car so I don't forget!

Thanks for the heads up on this! I rarely watch TV regularly and missed the announcements.

    Thanks Faye!
