70% off gift certificates

Posted August 17, 2010

I received a tweet from about their newest code for 70% off certificates - use code STEAK at checkout. Instead of paying the usual $12.50 for a $25 gift certificate, you only pay $3. Make sure you read the fine print (most certificates require a minimum purchase, can only be used for dinner or cannot be used on weekends).

I also recommend calling the restaurant before buying the certificate to make sure they are still participating. I heard recently from a Smart Shopper reader about a certificate she purchased for Amedeo's in N. Raleigh. When she went to use the certificate, they told her they weren't accepting them anymore because of fraud! How frustrating. The store is supposed to call in the certificate to verify that is has not yet been used.  I have not heard of this happening at other restaurants and I have been using these certificates for years and years. Thankfully, gave her a full credit to choose another gift certificate at any other restaurant.

Enjoy your meal!

I have used ones for Cold Stone Creamery. I bought 4 of them when they were 80% off. I have been using them for our birthday cakes this year. Was a big hit with the lil ones. Also bought some for Ole Time BBQ, but have not used them yet.

The certificates are good for one year after purchase. You can only use one at a time and you must meet the minimum purchase requirement (usually $35 or $50 before certificate is redeemed). The fine print is avaialble for each certificate before you buy it and they vary from restaurant to reastaurant.

LAXmom - we have used them for Tir Na Nog, Ragazzi's, Cleveland Draft House, a couple others whose names I can't remember and 2 other restaurants a few years ago that have since gone out of business.

Is there anyway of knowing what if any expiration dates will be on the certificates? Also, you can use mulitple certificates at a time, correct?

I would love to hear restaurants that you all purchase certificates for in the Raleigh/Cary area. Everytime I have looked, I don't see many that I recognize. I'm wondering if I'm missing out on some popular places.
