Thursday thoughts: frugal travel

Posted July 8, 2010

As you know, I am hanging out with my visiting brothers and their families this week so I am not posting quite as much on the blog. I did want to share this interesting list I just read of The 40 Most Useful Travel Websites That Can Save You a Fortune from www.wisebread.com.

The list includes some familiar names like Priceline.com, Tavelocity.com and TripAdvisor.com (one of my favorites).  It also includes some really unique sites like www.couchsurfing.org/, where you can host folks from around the world in your home or travel to other countries and stay for free at other people's homes. There is also a site listed called HomeExchange.com where families agree to swap homes for a vacation. The article offers a number of other options for finding cheap airfare, choosing the best seat on a flight, and even information about hostels (they aren't just for college students anymore).

If you are planning a trip in the future, I definitely recommend you take a look at the sites in the article. Now, I wonder if someone in Italy wants to trade houses for a week with me?!

I'd like to trade houses with someone in Italy too! Or better yet, I could stay with some folks there so they could show me around. My cousin just forwarded me a link to a very useful site for saving money on a great vacation. It's called Tripping (http://www.tripping.com). I just wanted to share it with y'all. Happy traveling!

After 7 days of vacationing with ALOT of extended family members, I have decided not to go to Italy or Bora Bora or anywhere else for a VERY long time. :-) Somebody else can have my Italian house swap.
