If you are in the market for a new clothes washer, dishwasher, fridge or freezer, you may want to purchase it between April 22 and April 25. The appliance rebate program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is offering a 15% instant rebate to NC residents who replace an appliance with a new Energy Star qualified appliance. Here is the info from the website:

"The State of North Carolina is offering a 15% instant rebate to all North Carolina residents who replace an appliance with the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer, dishwasher, refrigerator or freezer from a participating North Carolina retailer April 22 through 25, 2010. Funding of $8.8 million was provided to the North Carolina State Energy Office from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, distributed nationwide by the U.S. Department of Energy."

Five On Your Side will answer your questions about the rebate program Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on WRAL-TV News.

Limits: Rebates are limited to one per customer per product category. You can't get two rebates for buying two freezers.
Qualified retailer: Purchases must be made from a registered NC appliance retailer. For a list of qualified retailers and more details about the program, click on the link in the gray box. Some local retailers include Garner TV and Appliance, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's Home Improvement, Sears and hhgregg.

I spoke with Alan over at Garner TV and Appliance in Garner and he said that they will have sales and offer the rebate on top of the sales. The rebates are instant and you get the discount when you make the purchase. The retailer will enter them online when you make a purchase and they will know if there are still funds available at that time. The funds are limited so once they run out - no more rebates. Your best bet is to make your purchase on the first day so you have a better chance of getting the rebate before the funds are gone.

June mail-in rebate program: Depending on available funds, they may offer a mail-in rebate program in June including central air conditioners, heat pumps and gas furnaces. Additional details will be posted at the link above in May 2010.
If you participate in the program, let us know how well it worked at the store. Was it an easy process, did you get the rebate, was the store prepared?
