Grocery deals 3-10

Posted March 10, 2010

The  3-week coupon deals from Lowe’s Foods are still active, there are lots of e-vic specials from Harris Teeter and tons of items that qualify for the P & G promotion detailed below. It’s also the week for St. Patrick’s day meals including deals on cabbage and corned beef at almost every store.

P & G Year of Savings Promotion
This week there are lots of Proctor and Gamble products on sale that qualify for the Year of Savings coupon booklet rebate. The rebate form was in the 2/21 P & G inserts and can also be printed from the link in the gray box. You have to purchase $50 in P & G products through April 15 to qualify to get the coupon booklet with over $100 worth of coupons in it. You can also see the list of coupons in the booklet at the website.

Kellogg’s Cereal Deal

There is a Kellogg’s cereal deal out this week that matches well with recent coupons. Unfortunately, none of the cereals are on sale so the final price after the promotion and coupons is not all that impressive.

Kellogg’s Cereal Deal:
Buy 3 Kellogg’s Cereals, 12 oz or larger, any variety, get $3.00 off
Buy 4 Kellogg’s Cereals, 12 oz or larger, any variety, get $4.00 off
Buy 5 Kellogg’s Cereals, 12 oz or larger, any variety, get $5.00 off

There are coupons available for tons of Kellogg’s cereals including:
Kellogg's All-Bran, Frosted Mini-Wheats and/or Raisin Bran 11.4 oz or larger from 3/7
Kellogg's Froot Loops, Corn Pops and/or Apple Jacks any 10 oz or larger from 3/7
Kellogg's cereals any 10 oz or larger any flavor from 2/7
Blinkie coupons (red boxes on shelves) for Aple Jacks, Froot Loops and Corn Pops for .70 each (although I have not seen them) which may double
Kellogg’s Mini wheats, Raisin Bran or All-Bran printable for $1.50/2

Cereal Scenario: Buy 4 boxes of Raisin Bran and/or Mini Wheats for $3.49 each = $13.96
Then get $3 off at the register = $10.96
Then use 2 of the $1.50/2 printable coupons= $7.96 for 4 = $1.99 each
$1.99 per box is not really a good deal. My usual price to pay for name brand cereal is .75 per box or less. It is much cheaper than $1.99 per box at CVS this week with the cereal deal I discussed in the Drug Store deals post on Sunday.

Also, there is a Catalina (register coupon you can use on your next order) deal that runs through 3/10 (THE FIRST DAY OF THIS SALE ONLY)

Buy (3) & get $1.00 coupon
Buy (4) & get $3.00 coupon
Buy (5) or more & get $4.00 coupon

So, if you buy 4 boxes using the scenario above and get a $3 Catalina coupon to use on another order your total per box after 2 printable coupons, $4 off at register and $3 Catalina coupon = $4.96 for 4 ($1.24/box – still not a great deal, but an ok deal if you really need cereal)

Great to hear Erica! Glad they sent the coupons!

  • Erika in CH Mar 14, 2010

Faye, I noticed most of my spices were expired and emailed McCormick via their website since I never see spice coupons. I didn't hear back from them electronically but a couple of weeks later some coupons came in the mail. Thanks for the suggestion!

Cokebury - here is part 2 of the post - start at the one below this one!

I also buy store brand for many items that don't have regular coupons. Even with coupons, the store brand is sometimes cheaper so that's what I will buy.

Another good option is to e-mail those brands you like on the comment section of the manufacturer's website. Let them know how much you like their products and request a coupon. Works like a charm and most manufacturer's are willing to send coupons - and every once in a while you even get a free product coupon.

    I hope that helps!

Allyson - it was listed in last week's deals at I don't see it there anymore so I am guessing all available coupons were printed and it's no longer available. There is still a coupon for $1.00/10 from 2/21 inserts that will also make this a good deal.

cokesbury - There are coupons that become available for many of the items you mentioned including sugar (Dominoes), flour (bought some for free at HT a few months ago using sale and printable .75 coupon), cat little (tidy cats has them available often) and coffee - lots of brands offer coupons. The more flexible you are with brands, the more you will save (which I am sure you have already seen). For meat, I wait for a good sale (BOGO) or meat markdown and stock up. The higher quality 93% lean ground beef is usually not a great price but the 80% goes on sale alot. I actually don't even like ground beef so I don't buy it very often. I do post when there is a good sale on the Wednesday deals though. Some of the items you m

Faye, I am unable to locate the .75/6 Dannon Light and Fit yogurt on the website you gave us last week for the special. Any suggestions?

  • little blue 2 Mar 12, 2010

Little blue, you can only use competitors coupons for $/$$ (like $4 off a $40 purchase) at Lowe's Foods. They will not take cometitor's coupons or Catalina's (register coupons with store logo) for a specific product from other stores.

That's fine, I'm good with that. I am much happier at Lowes than HT, so if I can use my $20/$50 coupons, life is good.

  • CountryGirl10 Mar 11, 2010

Faye, I've only been working hard on coupons for the last 2 months so I have a lot to learn. Are there some items that you almost always have to pay full price and/or that you almost never can find coupons for? Some things I have not found coupons or good sales on (yet) are sugar, flour, cat litter, lean ground beef and instant coffee.

Wow, I can use HT coupons at Lowes Foods?? Woo hoo, now that I can do!! Thanks for the tip!

  • allysongreene84 Mar 11, 2010

Faye, that helps so much! Very good to know! Thanks!
