Consignment sales are about to get going again. Watch dates on car seats!

I've been to several yard sales lately, I the one thing I see a lot of (and don't need) is baby stuff..clothes, toys, strollers, car seats. A lot of the things looked in good shape. Check craigslist on friday, to check for garage sales in your area

I had my 2nd child 21 years (yes-YEARS) after my first, so I was definately starting from scratch!! I buy alot of things from consignment sales. They have a big one coming up at the Morrisville Outlet Mall that allows first time mothers to shop before everyone else. It is a great place to pick up so much stuff--blankets, bath tub, toys, bibs, books, etc. I try to buy most of her wardrobe for the next season at those sales. Diapers and Formula -we found the best deal at Sams Club. We were lucky in that the crib and rocker came from a friend that was moving, found the dresser and changing table on CraigsList. Both were fine!!!! Good Luck!!

It's been a while since I had a baby, but I just got an email from Target about their baby sale. If you want to check it out, here's a link:

BJ's diapers and formula have been AWESOME for us...and SUPER cheap compared to everything else. CONSIGNMENT SALES ALL THE WAY...but yes, if you need big items, go immediately on the first day or find someone who can get you in on a preview day. There's a great book called Baby Bargains that has every item you can imagine, reviewed by users. Be careful buying all the "required" items for babies. Talk to people first for the pros and cons. Baby wipe warmer...waste of money for us. Changing table, waste.

As for the crib.. we put ours on lay-a-way at Babies R Us.. planned it so that it would be paid off about a month before the baby came, that way we didn't have a box just sitting around and had that last month to get everything together once the nesting kicked in!

I signed up with Amazon Mom/subscribe and pay program. My lil one is currently in a size 3 Huggies, they ship them to my door every month, FREE, 156 diaper box @ $32.54 ($0.21 / count). I like the front door delivery. Saves me the gas and the loading/unloading a baby and a big ole box in addition to whatever else I might have bought. You can also do this with wipes and alot of other items; however, I have just stuck with the diapers. You can also skip your scheduled monthly delivery too or ship earlier if needed.

You live and you learn lol

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope your entire pregnancy goes smoothly and you have a safe and easy delivery :) I'm pregnant with #3 (joining the 3 kids in 3 years club lol)...

saving tips: 1. Use cloth nappies My husband and I use cloth nappies...we love the BumGenius brand and got most of them at baby showers. I ended up buying 10 of them on clearance at cotton babies.com if you wait for sales, you can get them pretty reasonably. we ended up with 40 of them total and bought 2 packs of the gerber burp cloths at WM to use as extra inserts..While we spent probably $300 on nappies, we have more than made up the cost after 2 babies. Both my kids have used the same nappies which end up saving us a ton of money! 2. We also make our own wipes which saves us a lot of money..easy to make and no chance of them being allergic to anything.

3. We bought most of the items we needed on CL. Crib/changing table/dresser/bookshelf, swing, bedding, toys, tub. We barely bough

I have a new baby myself.....i buy babies r us brand everything from the formula to the diapers to the wipes. They have a great program where you can earn points and print "checks" for money off your order. Also craigslist for baby clothes i bought all the clothes my daughter wore for the first 6 months and only paid $50 for everything!!!! I agree with everyone else as far as buying most stuff (except car seat, stroller) used. We bought a brand new bouncy chair and she never used it

Oh, and before you go shopping for used, ask anyone and everyone you know who has a kid 6 months to 3 years old if they have any stuff littering their garage or attic. My BIL had his kid 9 months before I had my baby, and we inherited a LOT of stuff, some of it stuff I would never have bought because my other kids (18 and 15, much older) never needed them and I know I could get along without them fine. We ended up with hundreds of dollars worth of gently used stuff for free.

Con't #2: you can use for diapers.

Con't: or Goodwill. I then supplement with new clothes for items i couldn't find or fancier items for parties buy shopping w/Qs at Gymboree, Old Navy, Gap & Crazy 8. They all have Qs if you sign up for their emails.

Sign up for the free baby mags like American Baby and Baby Talk, they have Qs in them. If you suscribe to Parents, it also has Qs. If you register with Target, you will get on the baby mailer and get great Qs for the first year.

Also, ask your Dr. for free samples of formual if you need to formula feed. Also, at my pediatrician's office, they have a basket of freebies and a wall of pamplets and/or Qs when you checkout.

If you are responsible with credit cards, you can also sign up for a Target Red Card and get an addiional 5% off your purchases.

Be sure to sign up for the Toys R Us/Babys R Us loyalty card. you get Qs after you rack so much in points.

if you Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, sign up for Blue Points and get gift cards to Kmart or Amazon that yo

Wow, lots of great advice already given below. I have a 20 month old son and have saved THOUSANDS of dollars by going to Kids Exchange and using coupons/matching with sales.

First, sign up with every company you can think of. You may want to create a separate email just for baby offers. Pampers, Huggies, Gerber, Enfamil, Simulac, Beech Nut, Johnson and Johnson, Avent, Playtex, Fisher Price, and Matel are just a few companies at the top of my head. Visit their website, join the email club, email them and ask for samples and coupons. Make sure you give them your mailing address too. I still get tons of coupons in the mail from these companies. Sign up for everything, even if you are not sure if you will use formula or what types of bottles. Plans change and it is nice to have those coupons on hand!

I also have the $5 per jumbo pack of diapers rule. Usually I find great deals on clearance diapers at Target and sales at CVS. Keep in mind that most babies grow out of the small sizes fast!

I regret not buying more items used. Of course not a car seat or crib, but the stroller, diaper bag, hight chair, Bjorn, etc...all of this can be bought used through Craigslist, Kid to Kid (or other resale shop) or seasonal consignment sales as other posters have mentioned. There is absolutley no need to buy any of them new- waste of my money!

I too coupon and ask all of my co--workers for the coupons they do not want so that i can snatch their coupons for wipes and diapers. i pair the Qs up with sales at the drug stroes or with the Target Qs. Especially when Target is having their buy 2 and get a Gift Card.

Sign up for Qs on the Pampers, Huggies, Enfamil, Similac and Gerber websites so that they will send you Qs. Also, visit the http://www.babycheapskate.com/ blog for her weekly deals on diapers and other baby related items. She also has a chart of what you should pay for diapers.

Clothing- I buy my LOs clothes gently worn for daycare at the consignment sales, Kid to Kid o

My daughter is expecting our first grandchild at the end of the month so I'm loving these tips. I think I grossly overpaid for a jumbo pack of newborn diapers at Walmart. I didn't have a coupon and I think they were $9.98 or something. Maybe I'll take them back and try to do better somewhere else.

3) I have heard tell that you can get wipes online for 2 cents a wipe, I have never attempted to figure out how. I have had pretty good luck coupling sales, eVIC and double coupons to get packs of wipes for around $1.50, and those vary in quantity (thicker wipes = fewer wipes) from 60-72, so not too far off 2 cents a wipe.

4) As for clothes, between gifts and hand-me-downs, I've had almost no need of buying baby clothes, save socks, baby just keeps losing socks. The one and only time I decided to go baby clothes shopping (as opposed to the occasional "Oh isn't that cute!" purchase, usually a printed T-shirt), we went out to the outlet mall with printed coupons in hand and made out like BANDITS. Sign up for emails from Carters and Osh Kosh, they'll send you the occasional stellar coupon, and if you focus on their clearance racks, you can do really well.

1) Don't buy a changing table unless it doubles as something else. A changing table that is only a changing table is the most useless item in any nursery. A contoured changing pad on top of a dresser will work just as well, for a lot less money, and you can take the contoured pad with you on trips if you want.

2) I price diapers by the jumbo pack, though lots of people online will tell you they buy based on per diaper price. Per diaper is deceptive, because they always tell you the price they'd pay for newborns, and there are always more newborns per pack than any other size (40 N's vs 26 size 4). I only compare per diaper when comparing apples to apples (same size, 2 brands). I WILL NOT pay more than $5 for a jumbo pack. My baby is 19.5 months old, and excluding a pack of Newborns I bought before he arrived, I have never had to pay more than $5. I do not buy Luvs, don't like them. When diapers go on sale under $5 (or equivalent if not Jumbo), I buy as many as I can. CONT...

You can get great deals at most children's consignment shops. Most babies only wear clothes 3 months at a time so thay are all genlty used.

For clothes...I tend to shop at Kohl's a lot...their jumping beans collection is awesome and a great deal. I have two DD's and was able to reuse a lot of those clothes. Clothes I bought from Walmart were essentially not usable after my first daughter.

Garage sales are great too...try to find bigger baby stuff there. We were able to get a slide at one for $5 that retails for $100!

There are some things you SHOULD NEVER buy used...like carseats and cribs.

I get great deals on diapers at CVS, but it is certainly only when all the stars line up correctly...when I have a coupon, they are on sale and there are ECB associated with them. When this happens, I try to stock up for about two months.

Before I couponed, I'd always just go to Sam's and get their brand of diapers and wipes...the thing is, they are so poorly made, that I'd go through more of them and not save much money. And...the blowouts in some of those diapers are horrendous...LOL!

With that said...if I'm in a pinch, I'll go to BJ's now for diapers and wipes, but I buy Pampers, Huggies or Luvs. IMHO, they work better and last longer. You can use the store coupons at BJ's and MQ's as well, which makes them a great deal!

Go to Bjs or another wholesale place for diapers and wipes if you go disposable. And def hit up craigslist. This is also the season for the huge kids consignment sales. Try to go on the first day or the last. On the last day they usually do a 50% off sale.
