Could you live in this 168 sq. ft. home?

One family of 4 has cut their expenses drastically by building a 168 sq. ft. home and only paying $40 per month for their electric bill! Click HERE to see a video of the family in their home.

They only paid $12,000 to build the house and they are saving to pay cash for a larger home. I'm guessing there's no cable TV in that house!

Could you do it?

When I was a teenager, my family of 5 lived in an RV for about 6 months while we traveled the US and Canada. Compared to the RV, 168 sq. ft with a full loft looks huge! I'm certain I could live like that, if needed. I just prefer not to. So, for now, I that also means we still have a mortgage.

Oh no, I can't handle that! I'm all for saving money but not at the expense of my mental health! LOL

I can't breathe just looking at it...so, no. One bad storm and they're no longer with us. I'd rather be alive and in debt.

if the kids are tiny it would be okay being there would be no privacy.

i'm sure they're at each other's throats. and the parents are abstaining....

That is about the same size as a cabin that you would rent in the mountains. You would be surprised what you could live without when you need to. And besides, once you have the money saved to build your mortgage free house(think of interest savings) you could turn the smaller on into a motherinlaw suite, guest house or man cave. Is sounding good to me right now!

Wow. No I don't think I could live in it. I mean if I was going to be homeless or something then yes I'm sure I could. But I am clostaphobic so that wouldn't work too well. Besides, where would I put my backstock from couponing???

When I was in middle school, our family of five lived in a camper for many months also when dad was on a job site, so looking at that house, yes I could, if I had to. I think if I had to, I probably would have opted to build something a BIT bigger, even if it was just double the size of what they made. It definitely helps that they are smaller kids though. :)

qrbyrd, I agree with your hubby.. I have figured it out how to put a 1bdroom in one of them 2story barns. :-) Thought it would be a great way to have 'extra' room for company...

This makes me think of my husband. Every time we go to Lowes and he sees the barn they have for sale with the loft in it, he tells me that we could live in that. I just give him the look. I'm just glad he has never had the money to buy it or I would probably be living in a barn. Not that I couldn't but since we do still have our home, I think we should stay in it. But their little house is adorable. Great idea on their part.

That's very smart of them and when/if they do build a larger home, I'm sure their kids will really appreciate it.

As long as the weather is nice and the kids could get outside, it'll probably work out nicely. We survive for long vacations in the RV, it's the days with cold or rainy weather when it gets to feeling a little "small"

I'm with you, I'd prefer not to, but I'm positive I could if I needed to.
