Just a heads up on next week's (3/21) ad - the Wedensday meat special will be 89-cent split chicken breasts. That's what was listed in the paper I picked up at the store yesterday.

I tried to pick up four things yesterday, but the checkout line (only one open) was a mile long w/ cart-fulls, and I had to get to a dentist appt. Will try again this weekend! Hope I cna still get that cabbage w/ it being St Pat's.

ALDIS: about 4 inch bottle of garlic powder (not salt) for under a buck and a half.

An Aldi manager said that the worst days for produce there are Tuesday and Thursday based on the schedule of the trucks, so I avoid expecting to get produce on those days. I have noticed that many times on the Tuesday before the sale changes the next day they are out of advertised specials in produce

I don't buy anything else at Aldi except produce and the occasional item--like sugar or honey. I tried their canned black beans and they are not good.

The head of cabbage I just bought from Aldi's weighs 4 lbs. That is less than $.15 per lb. I have had no more problems with Aldi's produce than any other grocery store.

I have only recently starting shopping at aldi's, mainly for produce. I am very impressed. The prices are great and the quality too. My husband eats the Carmel Rice cakes like candy (they do taste good). I normally have to pay $2.00 a roll at Walmart or $2.50 at Food lion. I brought home some of the Aldi brand (I think it is fit and smart or something like that), they were only $1.29 and he loves them! He eats 2 -3 rolls a week!

NYYankee, having done mystery shops for Aldi's, one of the criteria they wanted checked was mold and bruising on produce and fruit as well as expiration dates on dairy, meat and milk products.

They turn over merchandise quickly, they're buying on the down side of the product.

BUT having said that, as long as you check their produce well, and plan to use or freeze it within a couple days it's a very good deal!

I have never shopped at Aldi's. How does the quality of the produce and meats compare to those at Harris Teeter, Trader Joes, Food Lion, etc.?

sunandsea ~ From what I remember that is always the price for colored peppers at Aldi! Isn't it wonderful! They are always so big and fresh! Gotta love Aldi produce prices!!
