Any special plans for Valentine's Day?

Posted February 14, 2012

Do you all have any special (and possibly frugal) plans for Valentine's Day? For those still thinking about what to do this evening, maybe suggestions from others may help.

I started the day with heart shaped French toast (pictured above) and gift bags with little goodies for the girls (also pictured above).

My husband and I bought ourselves a new bed last month which we both agreed counts as an awesome Valentine's gift! So, we decided to do a very goofy Valentine's challenge and only spend $3 or less on the other person's gift. I bought him a big bag of his favorite Life Savers mints and made him a card. I can't wait to see what he came up with!

Tonight involves a homemade red themed dinner including:

Appetizer: Sliced RED peppers with red pepper hummus dip (red peppers on sale at Aldi this week through 2/14 for $1.89/3-pack)

Baked cheese ravioli with RED sauce – a favorite dish of my girls (Celentano frozen ravioli on sale BOGO at Harris Teeter through 2/14)

Sliced RED tomatoes with mozzarella and Italian dressing (tomatoes on sale at Aldi for .99/lb through 2/14)

Cheesecake with lots of RED strawberries and blueberries on top (strawberries on sale at Aldi for $1.39/lb through 2/14 and $1.50/lb at Kroger through 2/18).

I’m going to decorate the kitchen while they are at school today so it has an overwhelming red and white theme with red streamers, a few red and white balloons, red tablecloth with white plates, etc.

What are you doing to say I Love You this Valentine's Day?

My special Valentine's Day involved taking advantage of my BIL's employee discount, adding a Groupon, and getting a $1k mattress set for under $300.

    :D

Indeed, Faye :) Plus they're super good folks, my son was friends with their son through high school and beyond and he now runs the second location!

Nancy - not only did you have a nice dinner, you also supported a local business and neighbor and you had no dishes to wash. Sounds like a win all the way around!

    How sweet, Pirategirl!

Flying - your hubby cooked dinner? Awesome!!

Mine husband surprised me by hiding Hershey Kisses with almonds all over the house. I have a feeling I will be finding them for weeks! My girls have also enjoyed finding them! He also wrote us each limericks - they are hysterical! I'd say our $3 budget for gifts was just right. :-) So was the cheesecake! Now enough with all this love - time to prep my super doubles coupons!

Wanted to add...hubby and I don't do a whole lot for Valentine's Day...be try and make sure the other knows he/she is loved and appreciated all 365(6) days!

I made hubby a crossword puzzle online with clues all related to our courtship/marriage/marriage life. I also decorated a mini mailbox and filled it with his fave sugar free candy. I gave him a handcrafted little bag with cute tags that said things I love about him. :)

We agreed not to do a whole lot today b/c we were in NOLA a couple of weeks ago & celebrated then...I got home & hubby is in the kitchen cooking dinner (and it smells sooooo...good!) & surprised me w/ a box of heart shaped KRISPY KREMES (with free doughnut coupons in it, of course!) :) :) :)

J-LOVE Merrells!!! Hubby gave me some for Christmas, 3/4 of my shoe collection is Merrells :)
