Would you do this to get your mortgage paid?

Posted February 13, 2012

A California couple is using a very creative way to get their mortgage paid for the next year, but their neighbors aren't very happy about it. Would you do what this couple did?

They used their house as a billboard and painted logos right on the outside of the home. In exchange, the marketing company behind the advertising is paying the mortgage on the home for the next year! For the full article and pictures, click HERE.

Apparently there are some zoning law issues regarding the advertising so the logos may not be up there for long.

So, would you paint your house orange and green and let a marketing company paint logos all over it for $2,000 per month? Share your thoughts!

Not sure I would but desparate times call for desparate measures. I would raffle my house though in order to sell it. I would sell tickets at $100 each until I reached $100,000 which is the value. Then I would draw a name and they get the house.

    Yes, I sure would.

Thanks for your kind words, Faye. Life is very different for us now, but we have a roof over our heads, food in the freezer, and a bit of income. I'm very grateful for all of it :)

Not only would I let them paint my house but i would celebrate a neighbor getting needed financial respite by having their house painted

Depending on the situation, you could paint me orange and green and place logos on me for $2,000.00 a month. LOL

I'm so sorry you went through such a tough time, jdouglas. I hope you have come out at the other end of it. And I agree - seems like a small price to pay to have a billboard on the house to avoid homelessness.

That depends, Faye. Would they be removing the advertisements at the end of that year, or would I have to pony up the cost of returning to normalcy?

Our financial state at the moment is such that we are in no danger for the foreseeable future of losing our home. The money would be nice, but if we had to pay to repaint the house, that would make it not worth it to me.

I know how it feels to lose my home due to prolonged unemployment and then a serious injury-accident which was the straw to break the camel's back. Thankfully we were able to sell just before it went into foreclosure. But had someone given us this opportunity to keep it, I would have painted it green, orange, and purple, with yellow polkadots!! It's amazing what you'll do when the alternative is homelessness.

Paint my house and then I can add my "Cary Chickens". Seriously, I'll take both!

If it meant keeping my house, I sure would.
