Friday freebies & giveaway!

Posted February 3, 2012

It’s the first Friday of the month and that means it is time for a giveaway! There are also some fun freebies including an awesome energy kit from Duke Energy with tons of freebies in it and a sweet Krispy Kreme freebie with purchase!

Giveaway

This month we are giving away 2 certificates to Restaurant.com for $50 each! You can use the certificates to buy gift certificates to area restaurants.

Keep in mind that the restaurant gift certificates all have stipulations as to how and when they can be used so read the fine print when before you order them. For instance, some restaurants only allow you to use your certificates during the weekday and not on Friday or Saturday evenings. Some of the $25 certificates indicate that you have to have a minimum order of $35 or more to use the certificate.

Everyday, the $25 gift certificates are $12.50 but there are always good coupon codes available to take even more off that total. If you win one of these certificates, I recommend you go to retailmenot.com before you order the specific restaurant gift certificates to see what coupon codes are available for restaurant.com at that time. I have bought $25 certificates for as little as $2 before using coupon codes! You can get a lot of gift certificates with this giveaway if they are only $2 each!

To enter, comment below about frugal Valentine’s gifts, activities or meals you are planning for this year. If you haven’t even thought about your Valentine’s plans for this year, post a comment about a frugal Valentine’s idea from a previous year. We are doing a Valentine’s segment on WRAL-TV next week and you may hear your idea mentioned!

I’ll randomly pick the winner on Tuesday, February 7th at 1:00 pm and post the name soon after 1:00. Good luck!

And the winners of the 2 gift certificates are:

    couponmom with her comment:
"This year my husband is working a part-time job as a delivery pizza guy from pizza hut. At the end of his shift he bring a FREE pizza home and then we will watch a FREE movie from the Red Box. What a wonderful evening with my LOVE :-)"

    And

    cspain with the comment:
"Seems like the whole year has been tight so we're tucking away what we can and keeping frugal on everyday including the up coming Valentine's day from buying Vday cards for my son's school at the Dollar Store, to buying teacher's gifts at Targets Dollar Spot section and dinner I'm pulling out old Vday decor for the house and clipping the coupons at Harris Teeter and searching the sales ad to make for a fabulous family frugal Vday dinner :)"

    Congratulations to you both!

I will e-mail both of you to get your mailing addresses.

Thanks to everyone for your great frugal Valentine's ideas. I may be trying some of them myself this year!

I make homemade choocolate covered strawberries for my hubby & daughter each year. Their favorites!!

Last year my husband and I bought a whole beef tenderloin on sale. It was not cheap (~$60 at HT), but we did get about 10 meals out of that one piece of meat. We had the butcher cut it into thirds and promptly froze two of the sections for future meals. For our actual Valentine's Day meal we ate some mashed potatoes (potatoes were on sale), asparagus (on sale too) and the tenderloin section. We were also able to enjoy leftovers for several meals after that.

It was cheaper to spend $60 on one large piece of meat and divide that into 10 meals than it would have been for us to go out for one nice dinner.

We usually don't do anything! Homemade cards and same old dinners as usual. This year we got a very fancy gift certificate for Christmas so we'll be heading out for a very nice dinner. Alone. All by ourselves. No kids. Wow!

my sweetie proposed on valentine's day 16 years ago in a crowded restaurant on both knees! Restaurants seem tobe very busy and crowded on Valentines Day so I make us a romantic dinner at home and then on the following weekend, we go see a movie and have dinner out. Better service and we get to focus more on us than all the folks around us.

My husband and I always make a dinner at home (bought with coupons of course) and make a dessert together instead of buying expensive candies. We also exchange homemade gift certificates for massages and undesirable chores around the house (washing the car, cleaning the bathroom, etc). It is always very special and fun!

    Speaking of coupons.....hahaha!
We have a tradition of exchanging homemade coupons in our family. For instance, my children will make coupons for me that will give me a free massage, night of one of them loading the dishwasher, and other things like that! Those homemade gifts are always some of the best to me.

My son and I are going to make cards to send out (family and his friends). I ordered Valentine's Day cards for my son and husband from cards.com (one was free and the other was 20% off!!) Planning a romantic dinner at home with steaks that I got on sale (1/2 off).

For my frugal Valentine's day, I will be going to the gym to work off the calories first! After that, my husband and I are planning a quiet evening ...We bought the mussels with tomatoes at HT today, and will serve them over linguini! Yumm! Just watch a movie and stay at home! spending time together alone is what we like to do!

My husband and I have challenged each other to spend $25.00 TOTAL for gifts and dinner. We can use coupons, gift cards - if HE can find them, it could be movie & popcorn ( movie theater popcorn is like a gazillion calories, but it is GOOD and filling!) We are Senior Citizens, so we have the BOGO thing goin' - we should be able to do this.
