HT had their smoked Ham Hocks, which are used the same as hog jowls, on sale last week for $1.88. So $1.19/lb seems like a good price to me, but I only buy them once a year.

this sounds silly, I am a HT only shopper. I ventured to Lowes today for the fist time.. does anyone else find their receipts really confusing? Anything that was on sale seems to be listed 3 times? I still cant really figure it out!! I want to make sure things are rung up right, but I am having a hard time following their logic! haha

    Thanks for the info, leeandkaren!

heremeaj - my dad is from NC, but he had never had hog jowls before, either. I have learned about many new foods since moving here (although no road kill for me, thank you). ;-)

Just a hummus q would not scan, but since they knew me so well they took it; My LF store will not take a q if it does not scan. It did double once they keyed it in...making that FREE hummus

FAYE- you must have been in a state if shock if you moved here from Colorado. I am from NC but many of the "special foods" we have here like hog jowls are still beyond my personal scope of food. But you have to admit we are nice- when we grill the road kill we invite you to join us!

Ahhh...thanks for the hog jowl usage clarification. Can't say I am going to try it, but now I understand. I remember when I first moved to NC in 1990 and had green beans with fatback. They were the best green beans I had ever eaten in my life and had to know what made them so good. Of course it was fatback. I don't think there is any fatback in the state of Colorado so I had no idea what that was until I went to Food Lion the first time and saw the big slabs of fat. :-)

Hog Jowls also do well to help season cabbage and pots of beans too.

Smoked hog jowls - we don't 'eat' them. But I use them to season collards. Yum! I don't buy them enough to say what is a good price. I still have some in the freezer from Thanksgiving that I will be using for New Years. Don't believe they were on sale around Thanksgiving tho.

    Happy New Year!
