Thursday Thoughts: Veteran's Day freebies and activities

Posted November 10, 2011

First, my deepest thanks to those who are now serving in our military and those who have served our country in the past, including my dad! I sincerely appreciate all the sacrifices you and your families have made for this country.

Every year at Veteran’s Day, there are many events that take place throughout the country to honor our veterans. In Raleigh, the annual N.C. Veteran’s Day Parade takes place in downtown Raleigh on Friday, 11/11 starting at 9:30 AM. For more information, click HERE. Please post any other events you would like to share.

There are also many companies who offer free meals, retail discounts and free admission to active and retired military on Veteran’s as a way of thanking them for their service. Here is a list of some of those companies. For a REALLY long list, compiled by themilitarywallet.com, click HERE. As is the case with any freebie, not all locations will be participating. I recommend you call your local restaurant or store to verify they are participating before heading out to enjoy lunch.

My thanks to your hubby for his service, as well, Oxy! And I know what you mean about the extras in the cart when hubby shops with you!

    LOL Nancy.

Hooray for Veterans! I had my husband go over this list, but one man can only eat so many dine in only meals in one day.

That's OK, he doesn't usually get to come shopping with me, but with an 11% discount, that should offset the cost of the extra stuff that ends up in my cart enough to break even, so we'll probably raid HT.

And please tell him I said thanks for his service, carelesswhisper! :-)

    That's quite a visual, Nancy. ;-)

Oh geez, figures you had the HT deal for Veterans and Active military on your list, lol, I didn't read this until just now, after posting on the daily deals thread!

I'm slower than molasses, in January, in Alaska, flowing uphill :)
