i have been riding motorcycles, 4 wheelers, driving tractors, etc since i was about 5. i think my brother and uncle helped me with the little bit of help that i needed to learn how to drive those things. nobody ever taught me how to drive a car.

there was a program back in 97' that gave my Mom all the materials to teach me how to drive. All I had to do is drive and she filled in the paperwork. I got my license at 16 and could drive better than anyone in my family.

My father taught me in NY state, back in the late 50s. When I got my permit at 16, he'd come home from work & take me to a nearby old, abandoned air field leftover from WWII (this abandoned field is now revamped & is called the SYR airport!). I'd drive all over that place as there were lots of straight-aways & lots of those circly thingies where planes used to be parked (can't think of the dang name)! Once he felt I could handle driving stick & being on the road, then I practiced when we went places together. You know, I must have begged for him to run errands, so I could be the one to drive there!!

There was no stopping me after that, once I had 4 wheels to take me wherever I wanted to go. Prior to that I was a free spirit with 2 wheels!!!!!!

Parents Taught me as well as in High School. Drivers Ed used to teach defensive driving, This is how I taught my daughters, always anticipate the other driver doing something Stupid!

I took Drivers Ed in a 62' Plymouth sedan,4dr,straight drive on the column(3 on the tree),no AC/PB/radio....nothing...bench seats and three of us at the mercy of the instructor. I got kicked out of the car one time for not getting the downshift before a left hand turn correct.....I sat on the side of the road for an hour in Butner, NC, before they came back to get me......now that's drivers training.

And just to let you know.....I've been driving now for 46 years and never had a ticket or a wreck that I caused.....

Hard core DE was the way to go and still is!
