It's happens every summer! We start hearing complaints about about sales reps peddling MEAT door-to-door from coolers in trucks!
Today, the Better Business Bureau put out a warning about it.
The agency recently received complaints from consumers in Garner and Apex about sales reps from Omega Meats. The Greensboro based business has several locations in North Carolina and an “F” rating with BBB. The BBB says many of the complaints it has are about the quality of meat and slow and/or no response in issuing refunds.
I talked with Omega Meats Owner Tom Cassano this afternoon. He says he believes the company goes “over and beyond the call of duty with complaints.” He says Omega does “everything we can” to please customers, but simply “can’t please everybody.” Cassano added, “Our product is good" and that they "have many happy customers.”
Other common complaints to the BBB about door-to-door meat sellers include claims that the customer received less meat than they paid for, that the salesman did not have appropriate permits to sell food door to door and that the salesman didn't stand by the promised satisfaction guarantee.
Good to know-- you do have some rights with with door to door sales. In most cases, you can cancel your in-home purchase within three days after you sign a contract and pay. You should make that cancellation in WRITING by midnight on the third business day following the purchase. And keep in mind, Saturday counts!.
Consumers with questions about purchasing meat can contact the USDA'S Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.
