I was laid off in November but still can't find a full-time job. Am I still eligible for unemployment?
Question: I was working for a company for 6 months and was laid off. I was also working about 10 hours a week for another company hoping to go full time with them. I now work about 6 hours a week. I was laid off the first of Nov. and I have been looking a job, but can't find one. Can I draw
unemployment. I have never drawn this before. What do I do, where do I go, and what do I need to take. I am still hoping to go full time with
my part time job, but hiring full time has a freeze on it right now. I am 55 and have always worked full time. It is very tough, I keep drawing from savings. I just need some help for a while.
Answer: Whether or not you are eligible for unemployment is something you should check on with the NC Employment Security Commission. They have a lot of helpful information about eligibility on their website, which is at http://www.ncesc.com/individual/default.asp?init=true. You can also visit their offices to make a claim - dial 707-1290 locally in the Raleigh area or 888-737-0259 throughout the state for more information about where to go.
I hope this has helped and good luck to you.
