ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police, the Nash County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement agencies arrested 53 people over the last few days as part of a three-month undercover narcotics investigation called Operation Fall Harvest, authorities said Thursday.

Officers served approximately 200 arrest warrants in the three-day round-up, mostly for felony offenses, and they also served five search warrants across the city resulting in authorities seizing a firearm, approximately $2,500, counterfeit money and drugs, including marijuana and crack.

Some of the arrests happened at convenience stores where, investigators say, employees were selling items that are often used as drug paraphernalia.

"The Rocky Mount Police Department will relentlessly seek and apprehend the predators that exacerbate the sales of illegal narcotics and degrade our community through their violent criminal acts,” Police Chief James Moore said Thursday. "We will perpetually utilize proactive policing initiatives, such as Operation Fall Harvest, to alleviate the declination of crime in the City of Rocky Mount."

The joint effort between law enforcement agencies is similar to one in Cumberland County in July involving the Marshals Service.

During that crackdown, Operation Swift Justice, at least 150 people were arrested on major felony crimes.
