50-year-old woman killed in Fayetteville shooting; man charged

Authorities charged a 20-year-old man early Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon at a home in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities charged a 20-year-old man early Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon at a home in Fayetteville.

Lynne McElvine Umerah, of Fayetteville, was shot at about 5 p.m. in the 800 block of Amye Street, police said. The shooting happened after a fist fight between a group of people. Umerah was taken to Cape Fear Valledy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

As officers responded to the area, Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock stopped a possible suspect vehicle in the 1700 block of Newark Street.

Raheem Jaron McBryde, of 810 Amye St., was detained by police and charged early Wednesday with second-degree murder. He was in the Cumberland County jail Wednesday morning on a $500,000 secured bond.
