A 5-year-old girl was killed Wednesday evening after she ran in front of a vehicle on Spring Avenue in Spring Lake, the state Highway Patrol said.

<b>SPRING LAKE, N.C.</b> — A 5-year-old girl was killed Wednesday evening after she ran in front of a vehicle on Spring Avenue in Spring Lake, the state Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle was traveling 35 mph when it hit Kalia Parker, troopers said. The girl was struck outside a relative's home, troopers said.

No charges were filed as of Wednesday evening.
