MOVIE LAND — What a great time to be alive if you are a movie buff like we are. There are so many movies coming out at any given time that it is almost impossible to keep track of them all. Not to mention all the movies we can now access, thanks to streaming services. It is almost overwhelming, and let's be honest— most of them don’t seem to be worth your time.

For this month, we decided we would give you four films that we feel might have been overlooked and that we feel are underrated gems that more people should be talking about.

Here are four films that kind of flew under the radar that are worth a watch. Give these movies a try.

Rango” (VidAngel, iTunes, Amazon)

So “Rango” did just OK at the box-office. Being an animated film, most people assumed it was made for children. Although enjoyed by children, it didn’t have the same universal appeal or effect on them as movies like “Shrek” did. However, this movie was more enjoyed by the older crowd. So in someway, the movie kind of got lost for how great it is.

“Rango” is about a chameleon house pet, voiced by Johnny Depp, who finds himself lost in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Through a series of weird events, he finds himself as the sheriff of a small town that he wandered into known as Dirt. He ends up investigating why the town is on the verge of being destroyed by dehydration.

Stonehearst Asylum” (Netflix)

Never heard of this movie? Don’t worry most people haven’t. You would think that a movie that stars Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess would be a little more well-known.

The movie centers around a young Oxford graduate that gets a job at a creepy insane asylum. He has a hard time agreeing with their unorthodox methods to treat their patients while at the same time falling in love with one of the patients.

The movie plays out more as a thriller, but has elements of a horror film that will keep you glued to your screen.

Scoop” (Netflix)

Woody Allen isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who like his flavor, “Scoop” is more than worth your time. The film is led by Hollywood heavyweights Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman while the brilliant character actor Ian McShane adds deadpan humor that will force a smile onto your face.

“Scoop” has the right amount of mystery, intrigue, humor and neurotic filmmakers to make it a true hidden gem that needs to be watched.

Warrior” (VidAngel, iTunes, Amazon)

When “Warrior” was first released in theaters, I will admit I did not want to see it, and I wasn’t alone, I guess, because it took in about $13 million domestically on a $25 million budget. It looked like a generic sports movie based around MMA, a sport I don't really follow. When it came out on video, I was encouraged by a friend to watch it and I'm very glad I did.

The plot of the movie involves two estranged MMA fighting brothers, played by Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton, that both took different paths in life but now find themselves fighting in the same MMA tournament while trying to sort out family issues and their own issues with each other.

Although the movie has a lot of MMA in it, the fighting definitely takes backstage to the awesome story and the brilliant acting. It will be a film you will want to watch again and again.
