4 injured during late-night shootout in Clinton

Clinton, N.C. — Police said four people were injured Tuesday night during a shootout in Clinton.
Clinton police officers responded to 410 Byrd St. around 11:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two people at the scene who had sustained gunshot wounds: Mario Oates, 27, and Lodell Maurice Bolton, 26, both of Clinton.
Police said two other victims were taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center by private vehicles. The two were identified as Michael Jamal Oates, 24, and Tyreek Da'Sha Melvin, 21, also of Clinton. Both Michael Oates and Melvin were airlifted to other hospitals to be treated.
The condition of the four victims was not known.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting occurred during an altercation between the four victims.
