LINCOLN, N.H. — Fish and Game conservation officers say three teens dressed only in shorts and sneakers and without outdoors equipment were rescued at least two hours after they left their hiking group and got lost near the summit of Little Haystack Mountain near Lincoln, New Hampshire.
The three were found uninjured late Thursday. Conservation officers say these situations happen often and can be avoided by following basic hiking principles.
Lt. James Kneeland says calls frequently come in from people who became separated from their group.
In this case, a group of four students and a counselor from the Becket School in Plymouth had become separated on their way to the summit. The counselor and one student made it safely back to the trailhead and called for assistance when the others didn't return.
