DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police said three people, including a 13-year-old girl, were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a shooting on Danube Lane.

Authorities said that Christopher Mandy-LaSalle Holder, 32, Michael Mandell Morris, 36, and a teenager were shot while standing outside in a parking lot at the Oxford Manor apartment complex.

"Moments ago I heard like 10 shots or more and the only thing I could do was just yell," said neighbor Star Asia Scott.

Scott said she and her friend ran outside to get their children when they saw multiple people on the ground.

"He didn't say that he saw who did it," she said one of the victims told her. "All he could say was, ‘I can't breathe, I can't breathe.’"

Scott said her 3-year-old son was outside playing at the time of the gunfire.

"There were more kids than adults. I don't understand what they were thinking at the time," she said. "I thought my baby was gone because I didn't see how he was not hit when he was right there."

Police said the incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting. Two apartments and one vehicle were also hit by gunfire.

Scott said this was the third time there was a shooting outside of her apartment. This time, a bullet went through her bedroom window. She attributed the violence to an ongoing gang problem in the area.

"My child cannot go outside to play - day or night, it's sad," said neighbor Demeshia Barnett.

No suspects are in custody and no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-638-1200.
