3 Inmates Escape in Richmond County

Corrections and law-enforcement officers in Richmond County were searching Monday for three inmates who escaped Sunday night from a minimum-security unit at Morrison Correctional Institution.

HOFFMAN, N.C. — Corrections and law-enforcement officers in Richmond County were searching Monday for three inmates who escaped Sunday night from a minimum-security unit at Morrison Correctional Institution.

The three inmates were missing at an 11 p.m. count and were believed to have escaped the facility by scaling a razor wire fence. All three were serving sentences for non-violent property or drug crimes.

The inmates are:

  • Justin Shepard, 21, serving eight to 10 months for larceny and possession of stolen goods
  • Christopher Tadlock, 22, serving approximately 2½ years for larceny and breaking and entering vehicles
  • Jeffrey Winstead, 21, serving 13-16 months for attempted drug trafficking
