ST. LOUIS, MO — Three children were killed when an SUV overturned just north of downtown St. Louis Thursday night.

Firefighters said the crash happened on the exit ramp from the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge onto Tucker and Cass around 9:20 p.m.

"I seen the car coming from around the corner and next thing you know he lost control and I don't know what happened with the other car, he took off," said Joel Brown, who witnessed the fatal crash. "Next thing I know the car was flipping and kids are hollering and everyone is hollering."

Five children and one adult were in the vehicle when the crash occurred, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol traffic report. Police said several of the vehicle's occupants were ejected when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the ramp and overturned multiple times.

"It was scary to see them kids. The way they ejected from that car was scary. The 3-year-old was ejected," Brown said. "Then you look up and it's flipping and all of a sudden there is smoke everywhere."

Danzel Cosey, 11, Lamont Davis, 10, and Eric Williams, 3, were killed in the crash. The crash report indicates another 11-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The fifth child inside the SUV was not injured in the crash, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Missouri State Highway Patrol said none of the children killed were wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
