3 Bragg soldiers injured in ISIS attack in Afghanistan
Three Fort Bragg soldiers are recovering after being injured in an attack near the Afghan capital of Kabul.
Posted — UpdatedEight Afghan civilians died and 25 others were wounded in the attack on May 3, which officials said was connected to the fight against the Islamic State.
According to the paper, Spc. Brandon M. Canady and Sgt. Brent W. Sixkiller are back in the U.S. recovering.
A third soldier, Pfc. Kevin C. Williams of Yreka, Calif., remains in Afghanistan. He was awarded The Purple Heart on Monday.
Sometime next month, an additional 1,500 members of the 1st Brigade Combat Team from the 82nd Airborne will join him.
It's something Retire Gen. Dan McNeill, the commander who took the first wave of troops into Afghanistan in 2001, says is long overdue.
"I think there is a certain troop level that needs to be in Afghanistan to get the kind of progress that the American people want," McNeill said. "It's clear to me that the troop level that is there now is not sufficient."
