I do remember Dinah Shore and Perry Como being there and being very accessible on the golf course. Lots of sports figures came to Durham for the Classic; Don Rickles and Buddy Hackett supported the event for many years. The Sinatra visit was not received too well, though. The stars performed at Cameron Indoor and it was a great fundraiser and a great time for the community. I think the demise started a while back; the community lost interest, too many restrictions were imposed, the stars were not as impressive, the publicity for the event was not there, and, Duke support seemed to wane. The lowest point for the Classic, in my view, was the snub to Perry Como, the long time headliner for the event.

I'm sorry to see it go, but not surprised.

I hope we can find a way to keep it going. My son has spent more then his fair share at Duke and CHC.

Wow - Anybody remember how impressive the list of celebs who attended in the tourney's early days was? Dinah Shore, Perry Como, and even Sinatra.

I guess today's celebs are too busy getting high and driving drunk.

    That's a shame.
