— Investigators have charged a 20-year-old Moore County man with statutory rape of a 15-year-old from the Carthage area.

Tyler Joel Whitaker, of 274 White Oak Road, was charged with two counts each of statutory rape, abduction of a child from school property without parental permission, taking indecent liberties with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The statutory rape charge stipulates that the defendant is between four and six years older than the victim.

Whitaker was being held in the Moore County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond Monday afternoon. His first court appearance was scheduled for Oct. 13.

Whitaker has sentenced to probation in February for communicating threats in Moore County, according to state Department of Correction records. He served two months in jail in 2007 for violating his probation for assaulting an officer and/or state employee.

sounds like the girl got caught skipping school and now the parents are wanting someone to blame for thier daughter lying and being promiscuous and someone needs to be a stape goat..
its also weird how the legal age of someone by law is 18 but people dont consider you and adult untill your 21 cant even drink untill then but can be convicted of serious crime.. rape is rape and is a very serious terrible crime, but to use that to get revenge cause your daughter chose to make a mistake and to get back at her you throw the boy in jail is crazy... i have a son and i hope and pray that he never gets caught up in this becasue parents it could be anyone of our sons... remember that when casting judgement.

JUST FYI THE CHARGES WERE DROPPED TODAY--YES DROPPED BUT THAT WON'T MAKE NEWS WILL IT???? for those who claim to know him. . . you know nothing at all & for those who call him violent. . . give me a break the boy he hurt deserved it. . . step foot on private property looking for a fight don't be mad when you come out on the wrong side of a bad situation!! He did NOT rape the girl nor hold her against her will TRUST ME. A boy who makes a stupid decision by PICKING Up a girl from school hardly classifies them A RAPIST!!

20 year old guys should know better than to get involved with some jail bait. That was just asking for trouble. So he deserves what he gets.

Generally males that do this can't get a date from women their own age and usually resort to drugs/alcohol to get younger girls to have sex with them.

If he showed up at my door looking for my 15 year old daughter, there would be a serious discussion.

Whether this kid is a bad kid or a good kid is irrelevant for statutory rape charges. If you are going to say it is rape due to the age difference, then you can't selectively apply this law based on extenuating circumstances like the quality of the older person.
