RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Wake County elementary schools are making the mark, despite preliminary reports suggesting they would fall below federal No Child Left Behind standards.

School leaders anticipated Green and Millbrook elementary schools would miss adequate yearly progress standards, putting them in an improvement phase for the upcoming school year.

Federal law requires school systems to allow students the option to transfer if a school fails to meet the NCLB standards for two consecutive years.

Figures released last Friday show 43 percent of Wake County's elementary and middle schools met the standards.
