2 Oregon men sentenced for illegally killing bull elk

Posted April 11

— Two men from Dallas, Oregon, have been sentenced to probation on poaching charges.

The Oregon State Police says 26-year-old David Maxfield and 26-year-old Allen Boal unlawfully killed a trophy class bull elk in Benton County. Neither man possessed the proper tag. They also left the elk to waste, only recovering the head and antlers.

Maxfield pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of taking, angling, hunting or trapping in violation of wildlife law. Boal pleaded no contest to the same charge.

Besides a year on probation, the men had their hunting privileges suspended for three years and were ordered to pay fines and perform community service.

Maxfield also agreed to forfeit a bow that was seized during the investigation.
