RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County Sheriff's officials called in a helicopter and tracking dogs Wednesday afternoon to locate two men involved in a shooting south of Raleigh.

Matthew Lane Jr., 25, and Willie Jermaine Reaves, 23, both of Raleigh, were charged Thursday morning with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, authorities said.

A deputy was responding to a report of a suspicious car on Mid Pines Road, off Tryon Road, at about 1:30 p.m. when he heard shots fired from a different location on the road, authorities said. Two men dressed in black were seen leaving the area.

Anquan Lamont Massenburg was found shot nearby, authorities said, declining to say how many times he had been shot or where he was found.

Massenburg was taken to WakeMed, where he underwent surgery Wednesday afternoon. He was listed in serious condition Thursday morning.

Police dogs quickly tracked down one man, and officers found the second man Wednesday night, police said.
