NASHVILLE, N.C. — Two people died and two others were taken to the hospital Sunday night after a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95.

A driver of a sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound between mile markers 126 and 127 about 8:15 p.m. when she ran off the road and overcorrected, causing the SUV to flip several times, authorities said.

Abigail Melendez, of Bronx, N.Y., and Tomas Garcia, of Connecticut, were killed in the wreck, authorities said. They were both passengers in the SUV, authorities said.

The driver, Maria Torres, and passenger Carmen Melendez, both of Bronx, N.Y., were taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

All northbound lanes of I-95 were closed for 20 minutes, and traffic was reduced to one lane for another hour, causing extensive delats, authorities said.

The accident remains under investigation, but no charges will be filed, authorities said.
