Raleigh, N.C. — State Capitol Police have arrested two employees of the state Division of Motor Fleet Management on charges they used a state credit card to purchase gas for personal vehicles.
James Joseph Roach Jr., 29, and David James Smith, 31, both of Raleigh, were each charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
The men are accused of buying a total of $733.46 in gasoline with a state credit card for their personal vehicles and others operated by acquaintances.
Such credit cards are authorized only to buy fuel used by state-owned or state-approved vehicles when users don't have access to a state-operated fuel depot.
The men have been placed on leave. The case remains under investigation.
