DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police arrested two men after a car chase in which the suspects allegedly shot at other vehicles early Monday.

Officers found several people fighting in a parking lot at Rumba 54, 2223 N.C. Highway 54 East, around 2 a.m. As officers tried to break up the fight, a black Chrysler 300 sped from the parking lot, almost hitting one officer, and west on N.C. 54.

The Chrysler rammed a car stopped in traffic and then turned onto N.C. Highway 55. An officer stopped at that light heard several gunshots and saw a man inside the Chrysler fire several shots at vehicles stopped in traffic.

The officer turned around and tried to stop the Chrysler, but the driver refused to pull over and sped north on N.C. 55.

The Chrysler ran a red light at Meridian Parkway and struck a gray Cadillac. The Chrysler turned onto Carpenter Fletcher Road and slid down an embankment on the right side of the road.

No one was injured in the shooting, but the occupants of the Cadillac suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested the driver of the Chrysler, Rayvon Deshawn Jenkins, 25, of Taylor Street, and his passenger, Ronald Edward Goldsmith Jr., 27, of Concord Street. Officers recovered a handgun and marijuana from the Chrysler.

Goldsmith was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana.

Jenkins was charged with felony speeding to elude, felony hit-and run, possession of marijuana, careless and reckless driving, speeding and running a red light.
