19-year-old convicted in 2009 Rocky Mount slaying

Posted May 6, 2011

— A 19-year-old Rocky Mount man will spend his life in prison after being convicted Wednesday in a 2009 shooting death, police said Thursday.

Dewayne Avent was convicted of first-degree murder in the Dec. 27, 2009, shooting death of Tronyale Daniel, 27. Avent will not be eligible for parole.

Police said that Daniel got into a fight with two men and a woman near a vehicle at 1205 Parham St. Avent then ran around the vehicle and shot Daniel in the chest, police said.

Avent was named a suspect the day after the shooting and was found hiding in the attic of a home in early January 2010.

He has a single previous misdemeanor conviction for carrying a concealed weapon, according to state Department of Correction records.

@reel4fun... 1st off the photos they show are only of the criminal (Dwaye) and NOT the victim so get your facts straight. The victim is just that a VICTIM. If they are already fighting and its more against him why would a COWARD shoot him. That speaks much into itself. He should rot in jail and whatever happens to him he deserves. You take a life so you give up yours.

wildcat/ Look at the first 50 or so photos under PHOTO SPOTLIGHT/WAKE COUNTY ARRESTS and tell us what you see.

  • reel4fun May 6, 2011

I see that the picture of the young man that was shot was an arrest photo. So guessing that they both had criminal records. It is a shame he had to die but why not just let them have at it and kill themselves. Get rid of alot of criminals and the rest can go to jail for murder. Win win.

    Radartoe, you're absolutely right.
Wildcat, you're right as well but look it up for yourself under Wake County Arrests, that's just Wake County, and see for yourself!

Will these young people ever learn. Well going to prison for life he is going to learn a hard valuable lesson. There he will listen and do or face the consequences of his actions. Parents raise your child right at an early age so that they will never see the inside of the prison.
