— An 18-year-old Oxford man died Thursday afternoon after the car he was riding in wrecked while traveling northbound on N.C. Highway 96 north of Oxford, officials with the State Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened around 4 p.m. when a car traveling northbound turned left in front of car traveling southbound at Mountain Creek Road.

Tyrel Daquon Thorpe, of Oxford, was a passenger in the car trying to turn left, authorities said. He was transported to Granville Medical Center, where he died of injuries sustained in the wreck.

The cause of the wreck was under investigation early Friday, and it was unclear if anyone would face charges. No names of other people involved in the wreck were released.

This is so sad. This article fails to mention that this young guy was a a student at J.F. Webb High School. He was known for always having a smile on his face. Many students and teachers are in pain today after losing a student, peer or friend. Please pray for this amazing young mans family, friends, and school as they try to cope with this tragic loss...
