HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — One person was killed following a crash that closed N.C. Highway 57 for several hours Tuesday afternoon in Hillsborough.

Highway Patrol troopers said a gold Honda Pilot driven by Elizabeth Roush, 18, was traveling north on Sharon Church Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign.

Roush’s car crashed into the side of a tractor-trailer that was traveling on N.C. 57, killing Shannon Talton, who was a passenger in the Honda.

A passenger in the tractor-trailer was taken to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but the driver was not injured, troopers said.

Roush was treated at Duke Hospital and charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
