— A 17-year-old boy almost drowned Sunday morning after swimming in a pool on a private ranch in Durham County.

Police said the boy accompanied a caretaker who was feeding animals on the ranch off Moores Mill Road. The boy apparently decided to go swimming in a pool in the ranch, said Lt. R.E. Padget, with the Durham County Sheriff's Office.

Capt. Andy Miller, with the Durham Police Department, found the boy at the bottom of the pool. Miller pulled the boy out of the pool and began performing CPR on him.

After a sheriff's deputy joined in CPR, the boy began breathing again. He was transported to Duke University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The boy's identity was withheld.

I am SO THANKFUL this boy is alive, and I hope he fully recovers. However, he was wrong to swim in that pool uninvited. Can you imagine how that homeowner would feel if the young man had died in their pool?

never swim alone!!!!! Glad he has survided but NEVER SWIM ALONE. Even the best swimmers occasionally have problems in the water.
