16-year-old killed in Virginia shooting

Within minutes, the wounded teenager was driven in a personal car to Danville Regional Medical Center.

DANVILLE, VIRGINIA (WXII) — A 16-year-old girl was fatally shot early Sunday.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Paxton Street shortly before 3 a.m. Within minutes, the wounded teenager was driven in a personal car to Danville Regional Medical Center.

She was suffering from apparent gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff shortly after arrival. The body will be sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Police are not releasing the victim's name due to her age and are investigating the shooting.
