WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 15-year-old Forsyth County boy was indicted Monday on second-degree murder charges after police say he killed his grandfather, dragged his body to the woods and invited friends over for a party.
Jon Fielding Adams is accused of killing 75-year-old Clarence Nelson Parrish October 18. According to authorities, Parrish's body was found in the woods near his house near Kernersville.
Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says the teen attacked his grandfather with shovel and stabbed him with a kitchen knife before inviting friends over.
The boy told investigators he killed his grandfather because his mother was struggling financially and he thought she would inherit Parrish's money.
"I'd rather have my grandparents than any dollar or anything," said David Byrd, who lives nearby. "I have no sympathy for the kid."
Adams will be tried as an adult, authorities said.
No court date has been set.
