15 phrases your husband desperately wants to hear (but would never ask you to say)

Posted May 19

Men tend to think of themselves as fairly straightforward. Most of the time, they say what they think and do what they say. But there are still a few things he keeps to himself. He won’t ever admit it, but your husband desperately wants to hear these 15 phrases from you:

1. “I love spending time with you”

Even if he already knows it, remind him again. Let him know how happy you are when you’re together.

2. “You work so hard for our family”

Don’t let his efforts go unnoticed. Mention specific things he does each day for your family. He’ll love knowing how much you appreciate him.

3. “I need you”

You need your husband for a lot of reasons: to reach the cereal box on the top shelf, to unscrew the tight lid on the jelly jar and to get rid of the scary spider on the bathroom floor. But he’s more than just a handyman. Tell your husband you need his strong embrace and sweet kisses so he knows you’ll always need his comfort.

4. “You’re handsome”

Everyone knows women love to be told they’re beautiful. They eye themselves in the mirror after getting ready and ask their husband how they look for validation. Most men don’t do that, but they’re hiding one big secret: they also love to be told how great they look. Tell your man how handsome he is to give him the confidence boost he needs.

5. “I trust you”

Your husband wants to know you believe in him. Take time to remind your spouse how grateful you are to have someone you can always rely on.

6. “I’m proud of you”

No matter if he flops his presentation at work or accidentally burns dinner, tell him you’re proud of him for trying. He’ll be able to laugh at his mistakes later, but for now he just needs you to tell him everything’s going to be all right.

7. “I appreciate you”

When you see him do something you like, say something! Tell him you appreciate everything he does (even the small everyday tasks).

8. “What can I do for you?”

You don’t have to be left guessing what your husband wants (though a wife’s intuition is usually spot on). Ask what you can do for him, and he might even return the favor.

9. “I miss you”

Text or call him during his lunch break to let him know you’re thinking of him. Knowing his wife misses him even when he’s only gone for the day will make his heart melt.

10. “How was your day?”

Let him share his frustrations or good news when you reunite at the end of a long day. You’re the one he wants to confide in and he loves it when you’re willing to listen.

11. “I forgive you”

Forgive your husband not only because he desperately wants you to, but because you deserve peace. Let him apologize, express his feelings and then open up about your feelings, too.

12. “Thank you”

If he tells you you’re beautiful, believe him. Think about what it would feel like if you gave someone a gift and they threw it away right in front of you. A compliment is a gift — thank your husband and give him a peck on the cheek to show you truly appreciate it.

13. “I feel safe around you”

Men care about their family’s safety. Calm his worries by telling him you feel safe when he’s around.

14. “I’m glad I married you”

He probably already knows this, but he loves little reminders every so often. Say this phrase spontaneously and see the smile you love so much spread across his face.

15. “I love you”

No matter how often they’re said, those three words will always hold so much meaning.

Tell your husband something sweet next time you see him and see his face light up. Sometimes a kind comment from you is all he needs to boost his mood.
