14 Rural Center grants issued in wake of audit findings
More than a dozen grants funded by the North Carolina Rural Economic Center have been cleared to help struggling towns and counties.

State lawmakers cut off the group's funding and shifted rural development efforts to existing state agencies.
On Sunday, the Office of State Budget and Management determined 14 grants, totaling $734,344.18, do comply with state laws.
Among those being redistributed are a $500,000 grant for Person County, $18,582.52 to the town of Franklinton and $6,602.48 to Halifax Community College.
Over its 26-year history, the center received more than $650 million from the state. The center also receives federal money.
