Brunswick County confirms EMS was called to Bald Head Island on Sunday about a shark bite, WECT reports.

According to Village Manager Chris McCall, the 8-year-old boy was in the ocean when a shark grabbed him by the leg.

The call came in around 4 p.m. Sunday from S. Bald Head Wynd.

The boy was taken to the hospital on the Bald Head Island ferry. He was being treated for multiple puncture wounds but is expected to make a full recovery.

It is the third reported shark bite off the North Carolina coast this month.

Paige Winter, 17, lost part of her leg to a shark bite off Atlantic Beach on June 2.

On June 10, a shark bit 19-year-old Austin Reed while he was swimming off Ocean Isle Beach.
